HAVE A GOOD NEW YEAR
At PWP State Management Committee we wish you all a great New Year.
A New Year is an opportunity to plan ahead – set some goals – plan for some new experiences – make some new commitments.
Good Goals – your health is important – so why not consider some of the great information that is published each week in the Outlook from the ABC Health. Some key areas for health improvement – a little exercise every day helps prevent late onset Diabetes, keeps your heart healthy and helps manage body mass/weight. Smoking reduction or cessation has obvious benefits for the lungs, cancer risk reduction, heart and circulation, aspirin and folic acid a day helps reduce the risk of stroke, omega 3 fish oil a day is good for the circulation and joints, AND socializing more through PWP is good for mental and emotional health.
Planning for new experiences – well why not try to get to a greater diversity of the PWP activities in the program – what about Brett's deep sea fishing (see Sole Parent), what about the Northside bush walks, the City country music nights, the Macarthur picnics, and the Hills Parties or some of the branches dinners. Buy your tickets early for state dances (see Sole Parent for details) and some of the major trips during the year. Support your branches program activities.
New Commitments – this year PWP needs your help – with volunteers, help your branch and state committees or just help us promote PWP – help get some of our posters up in your local area, tell a non-member friend – even bring them to the state dance.
So let us make 2008 a great year with and for PWP – and a great year for you.
Ross F, State President

JANUARY 2008: RELEVANT DEPENDENT CHILDREN TURNING 18 BEFORE THE END OF SCHOOL YEAR
Those who pay child support can currently have their financial responsibility for a new biological or adopted child in their care recognised when calculating child support. From 1 January 2008, parents can apply to CSA to have the young person continue to be recognised after they have turned 18, if they are still at secondary school full-time. The parent of the relevant dependent child will need to apply before the child's 18th birthday.

==== IN THE SKY THIS WEEK ====
Summer is here once more, and the beautiful constellations of Orion, Taurus and the magnificent rambling constellations of Carina, Puppis and Vela grace our skies again. The school holidays will be an ideal time to head out somewhere dark and view the stars and planets at their best. Summer also means very long twilights in southern Australia, so you may have to wait to see these delights. Despite the warmth of the days, nights are often cool, so don't forget a light jumper before doing any extended star watching. A blanket or rug to sit on is a good idea. Some mosquito repellent will be a must. More

-COMPUTER TIPS-
What's Going On With Windows XP SP3?
The new Service Pack 3 for Windows XP has been a long time coming for most XP users. Ever since Microsoft announced they were going to be releasing it, they've sort of been giving us the run around as to when it will actually be available for download.
If you recall, back when Microsoft first started talking about the XP SP3, they gave us an initial release date for sometime in the year 2006. Well, that then got pushed back to sometime in 2007 and then one more time for 2008. As you all know, in the meantime, the new Windows Vista operating system was released and as a result, anything that had to do with XP was put on the back burner. Since then, Microsoft has been working on a Service Pack 1 for Vista as well, so the SP3 release was just pushed back even further.
As it stands right now, the Windows XP SP 3 will be released in the first half of 2008. Right now, it is still being tested and the final touches are being added to it.
There are not a lot of details on what all will be included with the SP3, but it looks like a lot of the changes have to do with the Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player programs. A lot of those updates have already taken place in those two applications, but additions will be included with the SP3 release as well. There will also be some changes within the Windows Live Messenger program and those will be put into place when the updated SP3 becomes available for download.
Microsoft will be releasing WinXP SP3 soon. If they don't, they're going to have a lot of upset customers.
