AN ASSOCIATION RUN BY SINGLE PARENTS FOR SINGLE PARENTS.
PWP NSW is in essence a peer support self group. It is an incorporated association registered under the Associations Incorporation Act – as a volunteer association managed by single parents for the benefit of single parents and their children. We are an association with a common bond between members in that we are single parents. We have all been through the major life adjustments of being single again. It is an understanding special community at PWP – sympathetic of those undergoing this major life adjustment again. It is a great diversion to life challenges – somewhere you can go on your own and meet people in a similar situation and make new friends. So lets all lend a sympathetic ear for new members - and remember when we were going through those early days. Remember to introduce yourself to new members and include them in some group discussions at functions. As a peer support group - it depends on members being there for fellow members. As a self help group it depends on everyone chipping in and helping with functions, with welcoming new members and with help include new members in our activities, discussions and meeting new people. As a self help group - you will get out of PWP as much as you put in - more friends and some positive life experiences in your week. Let's all try to make PWP a friendlier group for guest prospective members and new members.

.PWP DOES IT AGAIN
HUNTER VALLEY WEEKEND
We left Castle Hill on the Friday night, with a busload of members, most of whom had never been on one of our Fabulous Winery Trips.
They were not disappointed as the jokes and laughter were continuous throughout the weekend. It is in these types of functions that you get to really know your fellow members and some close friendships were formed. The whole weekend was relaxing, and we all had a fantastic time. Thanks again to our wonderful organiser Julie P and next time you see a function like this in the Soleparent don't miss out !
As someone one said....You’ll never, never know, if you never, never go.....and how true that is !
To sum it up in one word Brilliant!!

== IN THE SKY THIS WEEK ==
The Last Quarter Moon is Wednesday October 3. Mercury can easily be seen above the western horizon after sunset, above the star Spica. Jupiter is the brightest object in the western evening sky, not far from the red star Antares. In the morning sky, brightening Mars is now an obvious reddish object to the north below the horns of Taurus the Bull and forms a broad triangle with the red stars Alderbaran and Betelguese. On the morning of Wednesday October 3 the Moon is near Mars. Venus is readily visible low in the eastern morning sky. The keen-eyed may be able to see Saturn and Regulus just below Venus. More
-PWP Commandments-
1. Thou shalt not forget that thou were once a newcomer and the misery thereof.
2 Thou shalt not let the stranger in thy midst sit on the sidelines and feel that the courage it cost to come was in vain.
3. Thou shalt not be a snob, considering thyself too good to dance with any and all, and shall do thy utmost to prevent the sprouting of wall-flowers.
4. Thou shalt bathe diligently, that the sweet aroma of soap and shaving lotion or perfume may assail the nostrils of thy associates, leaving the more earthly smells to the farmyard and taking care that the words of thy mouth are scented with mouthwash.
5. Thou shalt be exuberant but shalt behave thyself in such a way that thou art a credit to thy organisation
6. Thou shalt noise abroad the benefits and successes of thy organisation, keeping silent if thou canst not say something good.
7. Thou shalt consider the fact that programmes and parties doth not spring full blown without preparation, and shalt volunteer thy services, remembering that there is something for all to do, be it only so humble as wielding a broom or dishcloth.
8. Thou shalt not criticise the programme and policies of thy organisation unless thou hast a constructive improvement to offer, or art willing to do the job thyself.
9. Thou shalt not make uncharitable remarks about thy fellow members, keeping in mind that none of us is yet perfect; thou shalt not kill the organisation with bickering and fault finding.
10. Thou shalt honour thy organisation and give it loyalty for if thou cannot do this, it were better separate thyself from it and join thyself to another whose methods and members are more to thy liking.

-COMPUTING TIP-
How Do Viruses And Worms Spread In E-Mail?
There are all sorts of things you can find in your e-mail box. In the "destructive" and/or "annoying" category go e-mail attachments that contain:
* Viruses - A virus is a small piece of software that piggybacks on real programs. For example, a virus might attach itself to a program such as a spreadsheet program. Each time the spreadsheet program runs, the virus runs, too, and it has the chance to reproduce (by attaching to other programs) or wreak havoc.
* E-mail viruses - An e-mail virus moves around in e-mail messages, and usually replicates itself by automatically mailing itself to dozens of people in the victim's e-mail address book.
* Trojan horses - A Trojan horse is simply a computer program. The program claims to do one thing (it may claim to be a game) but instead does damage when you run it (it may erase your hard disk). Trojan horses have no way to replicate automatically.
* Worms - A worm is a small piece of software that uses computer networks and security holes to replicate itself. A copy of the worm scans the network for another machine that has a specific security hole. It copies itself to the new machine using the security hole, and then starts replicating from there, as well. Worms use up computer time and network bandwidth when they are replicating, and they often have some sort of evil intent. A worm called Code Red made huge headlines in 2001. Experts predicted that this worm could clog the Internet so effectively that things would completely grind to a halt.
Worms normally move around and infect other machines through computer networks. Using a network, a worm can expand from a single copy incredibly quickly. The Code Red worm replicated itself over 250,000 times in approximately nine hours on July 19, 2001. A worm usually exploits some sort of security hole in a piece of software or the operating system. For example, the Slammer worm (which caused mayhem in January 2003) exploited a hole in Microsoft's SQL server.
In many cases, e-mail viruses are not "true" viruses because they cannot replicate without human interaction. Nonetheless, they have been very effective at shutting down major e-mail systems.
A Trojan horse, aptly named after the seemingly harmless tool of destruction in Homer's Iliad, secretly carries often-damaging software in a "plain wrapper." The plain wrapper is normally an e-mail file attachment from someone you may or may not know. The file attachment name itself can also be very misleading. When you run the attachment, it can do all sorts of things, from erasing files to changing your desktop. It then sends itself along to other people in your address book so that it can propagate itself.
Keep your virus software up-to-date with the latest virus signatures from the software vendor, since the anti-virus software cannot detect new viruses without an update. If you use Norton AntiVirus software, ensure that Auto-Protect is enabled. Current Norton AntiVirus software automatically alerts you when your virus signature files are over 30 days old. Norton's LiveUpdate can also automate updating.
If you think a virus has infected your PC thanks to an e-mail virus that mails itself to people in your address book, call those people and tell them not to open the messages or attachments -- that is the only effective way to stop the spread.
