BILLBOARD

ELECTIONS and AGMs

It is that time of the year again and PWP will work only with involvement from the members.

As a minimum, you need to turn up at your AGM to vote.

We need a minimum number (quorum) at your AGM in order to elect your committee.

Don’t assume someone else will do it - that is a recipe for failure !

The alternative is that your Branch has to be administered by State Management Committee which is not in anyone’s interest.

Please consider also how you could make a contribution to your committee.

Remember PWP is a self-help body where nothing “just happens”

Report from City Branch Election (last Sunday):

“Hi all,

Elections went well for the City branch today....We had enough members for the quorum and we have a full committee, which was a brilliant result.....

KIM

STATE OFFICE”

SMC congratulates City Branch members and their new committee.

:-) The Washington Post's Style Invitational

once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition. Here are this year's winners:

1) Bozone (n.) The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

2) Cashtration (n.) The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.

3) Giraffiti (n) Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

4) Sarchasm (n) The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

5) Inoculatte (v) To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

6) Hipatitis (n) Terminal coolness.

7) Osteopornosis (n) A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)

8) Karmageddon (n) It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.

9) Decafalon (n.) The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.

10) Glibido (v) All talk and no action.

11) Dopeler effect (n) The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

12) Caterpallor (n.) The color you turn after finding half a grub in the fruit you're eating.

Afterthought: I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed – Martin Luther King, Jr.

Computing Tip

(Everything promoted here, I either use or have tried myself and can recommend)

What Is Mozilla Thunderbird ?

Mozilla Thunderbird is a free, cross-platform e-mail and news client developed by the Mozilla Foundation. The project strategy is modeled after Mozilla Firefox, a project aimed at creating a smaller and faster web browser. Just as Firefox aims to redefine the web browser, Thunderbird is a refinement of the mail and news interface. On December 7, 2004, version 1.0 was released, and received over 500,000 downloads in its first three days of release (and 1,000,000 in 10 days).

Why Should You Replace Outlook Express With Mozilla Thunderbird?

1. Smartest Way to Stop Junk Mail

Tired of spam and annoying advertising in your Inbox? Mozilla Thunderbird provides the most effective tools for detecting junk mail.

2. Mail, the Way You Want It

View your e-mail the way you want it. Choose between three unique message views.

3. Built-in Spell Checking

There's no need for third party spell checking software.

4. Safe and Secure

Mozilla Thunderbird provides enterprise and government grade security features such as S/MIME, digital signing, message encryption, support for certificates and security devices. Unlike many other products, Mozilla Thunderbird doesn't allow scripts to run by default. This results in a more secure product than other mail clients on the market and helps stop the spreading of worms and viruses on the Web.

5. Unlimited Functionality through Extensions

Mozilla Thunderbird is already packed with great features like IMAP/POP support, support for HTML mail, labels, quick search, a smart address book, return receipts, advanced message filtering, LDAP address completion, import tools, powerful search, and the ability to manage multiple e-mail and newsgroup accounts. In addition to this, Mozilla Thunderbird lets you add additional features as you need them through extensions.

6. Integrated News Reader

Mozilla Thunderbird is not just a mail client, it also includes a fully-integrated Usenet newsgroup reader!

7. Cross-Platform Technology

Windows, Linux or Macintosh? Regardless of your choice of operating system, Mozilla Thunderbird is available for you. It currently runs on Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000 and XP, as well as Linux, Mac OS X, OS/2 and Solaris.

8. Absolutely Free

The Mozilla Foundation makes Free software, also known as open-source software. This means that you can use it without restrictions, even for corporate use. In fact, even the source code is available for you to look at.
